Purpose:

The committee serves to offer education and support to those who are working with clients who have engaged in sexually inappropriate behaviors. Within the world of Forensics, Counseling is a much-needed intervention, but often underutilized. We hope to provide education and peer support to those who currently work in or seek to work with this marginalized population. In addition, to address the stigma associated with this population, as well as the professionals who work with them.

Goals:

1) To increase awareness of the need for counselors to work with SIB clients

2) To offer trainings for counselors who work with SIB

3) To address stigma faced by both clients and professionals who work with SIB clients

4) To offer a safe space to discuss needs and concerns for counselors who work with SIB

Professional Organizations and Resources:

The Association for the Treatment of Sexual Abusers (ATSA) is an international organization for students and professionals who work with clients who engage in sexually inappropriate behaviors. The organization provides educational resources, updated research and ethical guidelines for working with clients who engage in sexually inappropriate behaviors.
